CT scans

CT Scans are essentially 3-dimensional X-ray images, which can be used for a variety of purposes in dentistry, including evaluating potential dental implant sites for bone volume, visualizing tooth root fractures, and assessing the position of nerves in relation to impacted teeth to avoid nerve damage.

We use a Cone Beam CT Scanner, the Planmeca ProMax® 3D, which uses the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ imaging protocol to enable CBCT imaging with an even lower effective patient dose than standard 2D panoramic imaging. This pioneering imaging protocol is based on intelligent 3D algorithms developed by Planmeca and offers a vast amount of detailed anatomical information at a very low patient dose.

All CBCT scans completed in our office are sent to the University of Florida College of Dentistry Dental Radiology Department for evaluation by a Dental Radiologist to rule out other disease processes, such as carotid artery calcifications and sinus disease.

Evaluation of CBCT scans prior to dental implant treatment greatly enhances Dr. Amir’s ability to reduce the amount of additional procedures needed prior to implant placement by virtually selecting the appropriate size implant prior to dental implant placement. Computer guided surgery can also be completed by creating a surgical template for implant positioning based on the virtual implant design.
