Periodontal Plastic Surgery Procedures By Dr. Jamie Amir
Periodontal plastic surgery is used to improve the cosmetics or health of teeth that have either too much or too little gum tissue. Gum recession can lead to tooth sensitivity, difficulty keeping teeth clean, or cosmetic problems. Gum tissue grafting is a very successful procedure to correct these types of problems. In contrast to gum recession, excessive gum tissue can lead to short looking teeth and a gummy smile. Conservative surgical techniques can be used to improve proportions of teeth in these situations, as well as to improve the outcome of restorative treatment when teeth are heavily broken down. If you think you may have either one of the problems listed above, feel free to ask your dentist to refer you to a periodontist.
